Video Gaming Terminals in the Illinois Market

Any for profit business that is open to the public and has a liquor license that allows for on premise consumption (this includes all bars, restaurants and any other businesses that have a valid liquor-pouring license) are allowed to house up to 6 Video Gaming Terminals. This includes Fraternal / Veteran’s organizations with a national charter.

Truck stops or convenience stores with a 3 acre facility, separate diesel islands, sell more than 10,000 gallons diesel/month, and with parking spaces for commercial vehicles are allowed to house up to 6 Video Gaming Terminals.

Large truck stops that sell more than 50,000 of diesel sales per month and located within 3 miles of a major interstate highway may be eligible to house up to 10 Video Gaming Terminals.

If you are new to gaming and wondering how to get started with VGTs, you have come to the right place.

There are 2 important steps you’ll need to take if you’re looking to add VGTs to your location:

  1. Ensure your Illinois business is operating in a municipality that allows video gaming. The IGB's website provides a list of where video gaming is permitted.
  2. Make sure the type of business you own (or plan to open) is one of the types of locations allowed to apply for a video gaming license.
